D.C.’s own and Double M genius Wale decided to surprise his fans by dropping his 5th studio album “SHINE” (Still Here Ignoring Negative Energy) a week earlier than its original release date. Wale’s last studio album released was ‘The album about nothing’ which was 2 years ago, and was followed up with a mixtape “Summer on Sunset” which was released last summer.
Wale is one of those artist who is beyond underrated and extremely unappreciated for the work he puts out and the passion he has for his craft. Through past music and lyrics Wale shared with the world how he battles with depression, and how bad he wants to be the greatest rapper but doesn’t feel like he gets the respect that is due.
But, this past winter Wale got the wake up call from his close friend J.Cole when Cole dropped the song ‘False Prophets’ in which he subliminally called out Wale in a friendly manner.
“I got a homie, he a rapper and he wanna win bad
He want the fame, the acclaim, the respect that’s been had
By all the legends, so every time I see him, he stressin’
Talkin’ ’bout, niggas don’t fuck with him, the shit is depressin’
And I know he so bitter he can’t see his own blessings
Goddamn, nigga, you too blind to see you got fans, nigga
And a platform to make a classic rap song
To change a nigga life, but you too anxious livin’ life
Always worried ’bout the critics who ain’t ever fuckin’ did it”
Once J.Cole dropped that verse giving his friend constructive criticism Wale fired back with a track called ‘groundhog day’ and has been rippin’ beats ever since. Not to say Wale wasn’t releasing music before but you can’t deny the fact that Cole put a battery in his back.
This Shine album has some smooth summer time crank to it.
